University Mourns Anniversary of Tragedy with Sustainable Agriculture Panel

EAST CAMPUS—To commemorate the 11th anniversary of the World Trade Center attack on September 11th, 2001, Boston University Dining Services hosted a panel on sustainable agriculture this evening.The panel, which took place in room 101 of the Sargent College Building at 6:00 p.m., offered light refreshments and presentations by 4 local experts on sustainable agriculture. Rachel Black and Nathan Phillips, BU professors of Gastronomy and Earth & Environment respectively, offered their perspectives on the issues relating to organic and sustainable food exactly 11 years after one of the more notable symbols of the United States fell to the ground.Students in attendance provided some positive feedback on the event. “There were these two people from local farms who were really knowledgeable about things like The Farm Bill and the modern agriculture system in general,” said one anonymous sophomore who spent the day looking forward to the event. “It was really thought-provoking.” When asked for her thoughts on how the panel addressed the anniversary of the attack, the student was quoted as saying “Oh, that was today?”BU Dining Services invites the community to become involved in their various events throughout the school year, including their Day of Healthy Eating Awareness coming up on December 7th.
