Professor Keeps Goofy Signature On Serious Emails

CAS—Students in Professor Jonathan Johnson’s Intro to Geology class remark on his uncharacteristically quirky email signature.“When I received an email from Professor Johnson about our upcoming midterm, I was a little bummed out” said Julie Bates (CAS ‘20). “But after I read through the whole thing, I noticed a cheerful reminder to ‘hAvE a SLUTtastic wEeKend, SLutS :-P’ at the bottom of the email and I knew my week wouldn’t be so bad afterall!”Much to the surprise of his students, Professor Johnson has maintained this email signature since the beginning of the semester. Despite its elaborate font and rainbow lettering, Johnson has yet to notice that his mildly offensive signature has been attached to each and every email sent to his geology students.“I definitely did not expect to see it when I got my first email from Professor J” said Kyle Brown (CAS ‘19). “As far as I know, the only thing he’s ever been excited about is rocks.”Johnson’s TA, Melissa King, commented, “It was a little weird at first, but now I can’t help but grin when I see an email from magicjohnny@bu.edu in my inbox.”At press time, Professor Johnson was reported to have changed his signature to a more appropriate, yet arguably quirkier, “Geology Rocks!”
