Indifference Spread On Campus By ‘Free Shrugs Club’

MARSH PLAZA—A group of students has taken to standing outside Marsh Plaza on Friday afternoons soliciting free shoulder shrugs to passing students.“Free Shrugs takes a hands off approach to supporting strangers,” said Free Shrugs founder Mitch Grayson (CAS ’17). “Instead of making students feel better, we think it’s important to make people know it could be worse. Or not. I don’t know. It really doesn’t matter anyways.”While some students have doubted the effectiveness of this organization, Free Shrugs is quickly gaining popularity among students.“Yeah, they shrugged at me, but it didn’t make me care less, a stranger can’t just shrug at you and make you feel indifferent,” said Dodge Barton (CGS ’19). “But at the same time, I don’t think that they’re doing a bad thing. I guess I don’t really care about it all that much. Wait a second. Did they do this to me?”This club has sparked little to no controversy on campus, except in the group from which they stemmed, the Free Hugs Club, who, now in competition with the Free Shrugs Club, has increased their pricing to ninety nine cents.At press time, a third group was giving  away free bugs at marsh plaza to students who wanted them. Or were they?  We’re not really sure. Who cares.
