You're Out of CGS, Now What?

Congratulations! Welcome to Boston University. If you’re reading this, you’ve made it through the first few weeks of college. No, freshmen, I’m not talking to you. I’m talking to you, the 600 juniors who just exchanged your crayons, glue, and scissors for real school supplies like pens with permanent ink and an Adderall addiction. Don’t think I don’t see you getting lost in the CAS building, accidentally referring to the T as the tube (cause your London semester changed you), and generally looking like you’re trying to compensate for something.Look, spending the last few years getting an interdisciplinary education and hanging out with a bunch of athletes doesn’t make you stupid. CGS is a really prestigious school! It costs as much as any other BU college and it’s located on the same campus. During my time in CGS, I once had a Natural Sciences lab that required me to go to Brookline and count the number of trees on a block. No other college requires that much hands-on experience, and by hands-on experience I mean literally playing with Play-doh and Legos.People who tease you about your CGS past are just jealous. They had to sit through boring lectures and write papers for the past two years, while you were making crafts and playing duck duck goose with Chad from PIKE. It may take a while to get adjusted to classes without mandatory snack breaks. Your Questrom professor might not be as understanding when you accidentally call her “mommy.” It’s all part of the process—don’t beat yourself up.
