West Campus Decides Not To Secede From Boston University

CLAFLIN HALL—After a much anticipated split between West Campus and Boston University, residents of West have officially voted not to secede from Main Campus. The campaign for Western independence gained its popularity after move-in day, August 29th, and since then rebels have been congregating on the third floor of Rich Hall to plot for independence.“I was all for the split because I felt like our proximity to the Allston crawl was a strong point in our campaign,” said Eric Stengel (CAS ‘17), who voted for secession. “I think a lot of us Westerners feel like the more athletic stepchildren of BU that no one talks to at Thanksgiving dinner,” he added.“Not only would we be losing very important educational facilities such as our School of Hospitality and College of General Studies, but we would also be losing Sunset Cantina, and I know I speak for a majority of East Campus when I say that we’re not ready for that as a University,” said Kim Walsh (SMG ‘15)Tension still remains between the two campuses, and protesters have been seen on site throwing furniture from the windows of Sleeper Hall into Nickerson Field and chanting “West is Best”, the official slogan for the campaign. At press time, West protesters were organizing a mass sit in at the StuVi2 shuttle stop.
